Our Work

Empowering communities, equipping caregivers and advocating for lasting change across Nigeria

Anambra Training 1

SUDACare visited St. Vincent Catholic Church in Nimo community, Anambra where we facilitated a brief substance‑use awareness and mental‑health session. With permission and support from parish and community leaders, we engaged participants on early warning signs, risks, and how to offer compassionate support.

In our visit to the Narayi – Bayan Dutse Community, SUDACare held its first Kaduna training at Narayi Primary School, bringing together community leaders and key stakeholders for a session on substance‑use awareness, early warning signs, and supportive responses. The training opened space for honest dialogue and strengthened community readiness to respond with compassion.

Following strong interest from the first session, SUDACare returned to Kaduna for a second training in the Sabon Tasha Community. Pastors and church leaders participated actively as we explored practical ways faith communities can support individuals facing substance‑use challenges.

Visit to HRH Ike Oliobi, Igwe of Nimo Autonomous Community

In February 2026, the SUDACare team and community contact Dr. John Onyiuke paid a courtesy visit to HRH Ike Oliobi, the Igwe of Nimo Autonomous Community in Njikoka LGA, Anambra State. Dr. Onyiuke introduced the team and outlined the purpose of the visit, after which SUDACare presented its mission, vision, and planned interventions for the community.

The Igwe warmly welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely and necessary given the rising concerns around substance use in Nigeria and within Nimo itself. He shared his own experiences addressing the issue, including collaborating with the NDLEA to curb drug distribution in the community. His Majesty expressed full support for SUDACare’s work and encouraged continued engagement, especially through interventions in local schools.

SUD Education & Awareness

Misinformation and stigma remain among the greatest barriers to recovery in Nigeria. SUDACare equips individuals, families, and communities with accurate, stigma-free knowledge about Substance Use Disorders and the pathways to recovery.

Through workshops, community sensitisation events, and training programmes, we ensure that people understand SUD as a health condition — not a moral failure — and that they know where and how to seek help for themselves or their loved ones.
🚶

Faith Leader Training

Faith leaders are among the most trusted voices in Nigerian communities. SUDACare trains pastors, imams, and other trusted faith leaders to recognise the signs of Substance Use Disorders and compassionately connect individuals to the right care.

Our training equips faith leaders with evidence-informed knowledge, ethical boundaries, and practical referral skills — empowering them to be a bridge between their congregations and professional support services without overstepping their role.

Referral & Linkage to Care

Knowing help exists is only the first step — getting there is often the real challenge. SUDACare connects individuals struggling with substance use to verified clinical, psychological, and recovery support services across Nigeria.

Through our growing directory of treatment providers and our community partnerships, we ensure that every individual who reaches out is guided to appropriate, accessible, and professional care — regardless of their location or background.
🤝

Family & Caregiver Support

Substance Use Disorders do not affect individuals in isolation — they ripple through entire families. SUDACare provides families and caregivers with the tools, guidance, and emotional support they need to walk alongside their loved ones through recovery.

Our family support programmes help caregivers understand the nature of SUD, set healthy boundaries, avoid enabling behaviours, and find their own emotional strength so they can be a sustainable source of support without burning out.
📊

Policy Engagement

Sustainable change requires more than community programmes — it requires policy that supports equitable care. SUDACare collaborates with government bodies, health authorities, and community leaders to advocate for policies that prioritise evidence-based addiction care and reduce systemic stigma.

We amplify community voices in policy spaces, contribute to national conversations on mental health and SUD, and work to ensure that legislation and healthcare systems reflect the real needs of those affected by substance use disorders across Nigeria.
👥

Community Outreach

Change begins at the grassroots. SUDACare reaches underserved communities through targeted outreach programmes that build resilience, reduce stigma, and foster lasting local change.

Our outreach teams engage schools, markets, places of worship, and community gatherings to bring awareness, distribute resources, and create open conversations about substance use and recovery. We meet people where they are — because everyone deserves access to information and support regardless of their circumstance.
